Types And Working Principles Of Wire Tensioners

Wire tensioners are categorized into hand-operated (lever) hoists, ratchet wire tensioners, and double-hook wire tensioners.

Hand-operated (lever) hoists are primarily used for tensioning power lines and overhead cables, as well as for pulling and moving heavy objects such as equipment. They are also used to secure large equipment and goods during truck transport. Hand-operated (lever) hoists are classified by their drive mechanism: manual and lever-operated. Manual hoists achieve tensioning and lifting by pulling the chain, while lever hoists include chain lever hoists and wire rope lever hoists. Lever hoists achieve tensioning and lifting by operating a lever on the chain or wire rope. Hand-operated (lever) hoists can be used for lifting, pulling, lowering, and calibration operations. With the addition of special devices such as wire clamps, non-linear traction operations can be performed, and suitable operating positions can be easily selected. The load capacity can be multiplied by a smaller tonnage tool. For larger tonnage loads, several hand-operated (lever) hoists can be used in parallel.

A ratchet wire tensioner, also known as a ratchet hand-operated hoist, is a tool used in power transmission line construction to tighten steel strands and small-section conductors. Typically, a wire clamp is used to secure the conductor first, and then the tensioner is used to tighten the conductor to a suitable sag.

A double-hook wire tensioner is a tool used during power transmission line construction for tightening guy wires, adjusting the position of equipment or materials, replacing insulators, and other tensioning tasks. Double-hook wire tensioners are available in steel and aluminum alloy. The former is heavier but has a higher allowable load capacity, up to 100kN; the latter is lighter and easier to carry and use, but its maximum load is generally no more than 50kN.

To use a wire tensioner, first loosen the steel wire rope or galvanized iron wire on the tensioner and secure it to the crossarm. Clamp the conductor with wire clamps, and then operate the special wrench. Wire tensioners can improve safety during the lifting and transport of goods.
